D3 Tutorials

Note: I will not be present for this lecture. However, if you attend class to work on the tutorials below, you can receive extra credit towards your participation grade. During class time, please feel free to ask each other for help and to customize the visualizations created in the tutorials.

For this lecture, you must work through all of the tutorials http://alignedleft.com/tutorials/d3/ and post a customized version of the SVG bar chart and bubble plot at:

http://www.cs.usfca.edu/~username/cs360/d3demo

Replace username with your USF Connect username. See http://sjengle.cs.usfca.edu/resources/creating-a-cs-website for how to setup your CS website if you haven't already. Below is an example page (you do not need to replicate this exactly):

If you like these tutorials, I highly recommend the book Interactive Data Visualization for the Web by Scott Murray. Scott Murray created these tutorials, and is a professor here at the University of San Francisco teaching information visualization in the Art + Architecture department.
